Letter to Nalinī-kānta Devī Dāsī, January 1989
[…] Brahmana means that what you know you teach to others. Whatever you have learnt from your spiritual master you tell others without changing it or altering it. Then you are a real brahmana. So always chant the Hare Krsna maha-mantra for maintaining your internal purity, and stay clean by regularly bathing twice or if possible three times a day. […] Lord Caitanya had said that it is not necessary for one to change one’s location, simply whatever condition one is in one should preach to others about Krsna as he has heard it from Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam.
Aside from preaching you must also take the opportunity to read. It is just like a flashlight. If the batteries are not kept charged then the light will go out. So similarly you will only be able to give as much as you receive and therefore in order to speak you must hear. This regular hearing is stated in Srimad-Bhagavatam, nityam bhagavata-sevaya.
These are my instructions to you all. Just remember to offenselessly chant 16 rounds a day, follow the four regulative principles and regularly read Srila Prabhupada’s books while going through the regular temple programmes. If you do this then certainly your life will become successful and you will be able to see Lord Krsna’s lotus feet in this lifetime. […]
