1983 Caitanya College Offering

Dear Śrīla Prabhupāda,

Please accept our humble obeisances at your lotus feet. All glories to you. Last year in our offering from Caitanya College, we regretted the disastrous events of the year and the culmination of them in the loss of so many devotees. As the English Yatra was rocked by the events, many programs were threatened; but we were determined to maintain and increase the standard above that of before. So here is a short report of last year s development, to complete the promise we made a year ago.

Book Distribution -Last year our book distribution was hampered because we needed all our saěkīrtana party on hand to collect to maintain the yātrā. After the loss of saěkīrtana devotees (more than ha force), maintenance was the first consideration. So all in all we distributed about forty thousand Śrimad-Bhāgavatams in the year, which is about ten percent of the previous year s score. Still, we did not printing, but instead we printed 170,000 hardbound books (First Canto Śrimad Bhāgavatam) for future distribution.

Devotee-Making -The 110 devotees that we lost last year have now been replaced in one year. About forty of them returned, and the balance is new devotees that were made. In fact, the caliber of our new men is better than ever. This very moment we have over thirty devotees bhakta program.

Deity Worship -Some offerings and pūjā were missed in the heat crisis last spring, but the Deities are now being worshiped better than before. Your favorite Deities, Rādhā-Londonīśvara and Rādhā- Gokulānanda, are more beautiful than ever before, and this year we have standardized all the pūjā in the yātrā . All the worship is perform brāhmaṇas.

Maintenance -Śrīla Prabhupāda, you will be glad to know that , buildings were kept. None were sold (as some suggested), and actually the standard has been improved. In Bhaktivedanta Manor we built new ladies prasādam rooms, renovated the reception room, men s prasādam room and V. I. P. dining room, and a new central heater was install Caitanya College the entire ground floor is being renovated as a museum, with historical, cultural, philosophical, audiovisual displays and dioramas, as well as a museum of Your Divine Grace, a restaurant and With a little local advertising we received three hundred guests on Sunday. So we expect to get that many a day, paying one and pounds each, upon the opening of the museum on June 1st.

Preaching – Our Friends of Lord Krishna program is really booming, and we have regular preaching engagements at the Manor for all sorts of guests, from upper to middle class. This year Śrila Bhagavān Mahārāja met the Pope, the Dean of Westminster , many dignitaries, millionaires, movie producers, etc. Our public image was very much enhanced by some TV shows, as well as last year s Festival of India, a joint British- Indian cultural project of which we were a part. There were also seven Ratha-yātrās across the country, including London, Birmingham and Glasgow.

But above all, the consciousness of the devotees is much improved and actually better than we have ever seen before. Everyone is dedicated to pushing on ISKCON with great enthusiasm, and we are looking forward to publishing ten thousand sets of Śrimad-Bhāgavatam this year.

All this has been possible by the expert guidance and leadership of your great disciple Śrīla Bhāgavan Goswami, who inspired the yātrā with a vision of expansion at a time when we doubted that we could even maintain. It is all his credit that the above-mentioned projects developed the way they did.

We have great hope for the future, and we shall make all attempts to offer you better results yearly. We are determined, for this ordeal has just increased our faith and conviction in your instructions and this ISKCON movement. The lessons of independence and lack of cooperation have been learned. Sobered and chastised, we feel purified, realizing the spiritual nature of the movement and the mercy which sustains it. Who would have thought to lose a GBC, guru, one third of the yātrā and more, and still be able to erase the tide and increase the preaching? It is only possible because you are guiding and maintaining those who follow you strictly. We are more confident than ever of your presence, and with straw in our mouths we offer our respectful obeisances to you again and again on this, your Vyāsa-pūjā day.
