1979 Chicago Temple Offering

I bow down to the beautiful lotus feet of my spiritual master, Śrīla Prabhupāda. Taking the sacred dust of those lotus feet, I sprinkle it over my head in great awe and reverence.

By his causeless mercy I have obtained the greatest treasures of the Vaiṣṇava-sampradāya. In the beginning he taught me to dance before the Deity of the Lord with upraised hands, and then he taught me to chant the holy names of Hari in kīrtana and in japa.

When I grew hungry he gave me a taste of sacred prasāda and taught me to eat samosā and sweet rice. Then for work he gave me the service of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and the association of devotees for my company. For my guidance he gave me the shelter of Rūpa Gosvāmī and Sanātana Gosvāmī, and for my play he gave me the Ratha-yātrā festival and other holy days.

For reading he gave me the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and for worship the divine forms of the arcā-vigraha.

In an empty world he gave me the supreme abode of Bhauma-vṛndāvana and the transcendental land of Navadvīpa. For a place of bathing he gave me the Gaṇgā and Yamunā, and Rādhā-kuṇňa to worship. By his grace I have seen Govardhana Hill.

Within my heart he has established a desire for the loving service of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa and a compassion for the welfare of my fellow men.

When I was tired he taught me to rest, and for service he wakes me again.

By the touch of my spiritual master, Śrīla Prabhupāda, I walk and I talk,  sit and dance. He makes me do as he likes; I am simply a puppet in his hands, and I bend to his desire. He is my eternal master, friend and well-wisher, and now when I can no longer see his beautiful smile, my heart cries in the agony of separation. By his words I am comforted, and I feel that he is always here, within my heart.

By the grace of my spiritual master, Śrīla Prabhupāda, I have obtained everything, although I have nothing to give in return. He has purchased me with his love and kindness, and I have no desire aside from his pleasure. May he confer upon us all his blessings to follow in his footsteps and execute his instructions, that again one day we may walk by his side in the groves of Vṛndāvana and breathe the fragrance of his association.
